My Recipes : Dal Gosht

This is a rare dish , it combines the two popular ingredients of north indian/frontier cuisine i.e mutton and yellow dal ( arhar or toor dal ) . This is my take on this dish.

Mutton pieces - small 1/2 inch cubes - 1 cup
toor dal - 1 cup ( soaked for 1 hour )
onion - 1 cup
ginger & garlic paste - 1 table spoon
Chopped tomato - 1 medium
coriander, cumin powder - 1 tea spoon
Garam masala - 1 tea spoon
green chillie - 2-3 split
ginger slits fine - 1 tea spoon
turmeric - per taste
Red Chile powder - 1 tea spoon
oil for cooking
salt per taste

for tadka

ghee - 1 table spoon
garlic - chopped 1/2 tsp

Put oil in a deep vessel, let it warm, add coriander-cumin powder, turmeric powder and red Chile powder - stir for 1 minute, add onion and ginger garlic paste and fry for 2-3 minutes, add mutton cubes and let it cook for 5-6 minutes, add chopped tomatoes and let it cook for another 5 minutes, add the soaked dal , salt and garam masala powder and let it cook for 5 minutes. Add 5-6 cups of water , green Chile and chopped ginger slits and cover and cook till dal is done , stir in between so that dal mixes well . When finished it should have the texture and consistency of regular dal.

For tadka , warm ghee in a small pan and add garlic , let it brown . then add this to the dal and cover the lid .
